Every use of the Eye Link feeds the shard. The shard remembers. It whispers to its host in the Watcher’s ancient, emotionless voice. Slowly, the host’s own memories, dreams, and identity are overwritten. They begin to see everyone as objects to be observed, not loved. The final stage is The Unblinking —the host’s original eyes turn to white crystal, and they become a living node of the Watcher’s reborn awareness. They no longer act; they merely record the end of all things.
A secret order of monks, the , has spent centuries collecting and sealing shards in lead-lined vaults. Their mantra: “To see is to be seen. To be seen is to be consumed.” They hunt down those afflicted by the Eye Link and offer them a choice: amputation (if the shard is in a limb) or ritual blinding (if in the eye socket).
