The film takes place in a small town in Kansas, where magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is accused of being a charlatan. After a tornado transports him to the Land of Oz, Oscar meets a beautiful witch named Theodora (Michelle Williams) and a young girl named Munchkin (Joey King). Oscar soon discovers that he has the power to manipulate magic and becomes embroiled in a battle between good and evil, with the help of a powerful sorceress, Glinda (Mila Kunis).
