Upon its release on , Goynar Baksho opened to rave reviews. The Times of India rated it 4/5, calling it “a sparkling ride.” It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali and Best Screenplay (Aparna Sen). Moushumi Chatterjee won the BFJA Award for Best Actress .
