The movie follows the adventures of Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), a lazy and sarcastic cat who lives with his owner, Jon Arbuckle (voiced by Nicholas Hoult). Garfield's life is turned upside down when he is forced to navigate a mysterious pet heist, alongside his best friend, Odie (voiced by Cecily Strong). Along the way, Garfield must confront his arch-nemesis, Nermal (voiced by Hannibal Buress), a cute and pesky grey cat.
