El infierno de Gabriel (Parte 1) presents a harrowing portrait of a man’s psychological and social disintegration against the backdrop of systemic corruption, drug trafficking, and familial collapse in contemporary Latin America. This paper argues that the film functions as a modern descenso a los infiernos (descent into hell), drawing on Dantean allegory while grounding its narrative in the socio-economic realities of marginalization. Through close analysis of cinematography, character development, and narrative structure, we explore how Gabriel’s transformation from a hopeful everyman into a perpetrator of violence critiques the failure of state and civil institutions. Part 1 establishes the cyclical nature of trauma, positioning personal damnation as inseparable from collective historical guilt.
